Career Medical Officer – Sydney

“The Kirketon Road Centre (KRC) is a primary health care facility located in Kings Cross, which is involved in the prevention, treatment and care of HIV/AIDs and other transmissible infections among ‘at risk’ young people, sex workers and injecting drug users. It also operates a low threshold methadone access program (MAP) which targets street-based opioid dependent injecting drug users (IDUs) who have had difficulty accessing or being retained in other methadone treatment programs. This position is responsible for the provision of day-to-day, quality medical care for KRC clients within the framework of primary health care as well assessment and treatment of marginalised IDUs.

Research Fellow: Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health Research (CEPHR) – Victoria

“BURNET INSTITUTE

CEPHR undertakes research into the use of illicit drugs and associated risks (such as overdose and blood borne virus transmission). CEPHR also undertakes research into sexually transmitted infections in the community and the risk behaviours associated with their transmission.

The Research Fellow will organize and supervise the conduct of interviews with participants in a series of studies involving injecting drug users. The studies, conducted in a variety of sites across Melbourne, involve innovative recruitment strategies and analysis methods that will provide the Research Fellow with significant opportunities for career development. To this end the Research Fellow will manage a team of researchers, write-up project results for publication, and contribute to the design and implementation of new and innovative research projects in the area of alcohol and other drug use in the community. The Research Fellow will be expected to contribute to the development of research directions in other areas of CEPHR and the Burnet Institute more broadly.

The successful applicant will have postgraduate qualifications in epidemiology or public health or a related discipline and experience in analysis of epidemiological data. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and experience in report writing and preparation of manuscripts are also required. Familiarity with issues related to injecting drug use and related harms is desirable.

Drug and Alcohol / Mental Health: Co-morbidity Workers

ACON is seeking staff with experience in drug, alcohol and mental health issues to establish an exciting project in our growing Alcohol and Other Drugs Program.

Successful candidates will have a commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of members of the GLBT community living with co-morbid mental health and drug and alcohol issues.

Responsibilities include a range of service and program activities, such as client care and support, partnership building, workforce development and quality improvement processes.

The project has two positions available until December 2010. One is a full-time team leader position (35 hours per week) based in our Sydney office and the other is a part-time position (15 hours per week) located in our Newcastle office.

Both positions are offered on a fixed-term basis commensurate to demonstrated skills and experience, with a package of $51K to 55K plus super and leave loading for the Sydney team leader position, and $40K to 43K (pro-rata) per annum plus super and leave loading for the Newcastle part-time position.

The Manly Drug Education and Counselling Centre (MDECC) is inviting applications from qualified individuals for the new position of Mental Health Coordinator.

MDECC is a non-government organisation based in Manly. The Centre provides drug treatment programs and a range of health promotion interventions. MDECC is funded by NSW Health and supported by the local community. MDECC operates within a Harm Reduction philosophy relative to alcohol and other drug use. The successful applicant will be a mental health professional with recent program development experience.

The Ted Noffs Foundation is continuing the legacy of the legendary humanitarian, Ted Noffs, who founded the organisation more than 37 years ago. Ted Noffs provides vital and specialised services for young people who are experiencing drug and alcohol problems and related trauma and their families. We are an advocate for evidence-based practice in the provision of drug and alcohol/ mental health, early intervention and treatment services.

We are currently looking for 2 full-time Clinical Psychologists to provide clinical support and workforce development activities. The two roles have similar responsibilities but one will have a stronger focus on Drug and Alcohol and the other on Mental Health. Applicants for both roles will need extensive experience working with co-morbid clients. Both roles will provide clinical services to our staff and clients (young people with serious Drug and Alcohol problems), participate in the review and evaluation of our services, and contribute to various workforce development initiatives including training and presentations at team meetings

Successful candidates will have all relevant clinical qualifications and approximately 5 years experience in a similar role. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential as well as the ability to work well both autonomously and as a part of a team.
